One Cast, One Chance

When strong upstream winds and awkward fish positions made conventional presentations impossible, JT adapted with a precise downstream dry fly approach that produced an unforgettable take on the very first cast.

One Cast, One Chance

A recent guided trip up north delivered a liberal dose of sunshine and a vicious upstream northerly wind. JT and his client managed to find a few rising fish but they were tucked away in very compromising positions requiring some seriously technical dry fly casts and presentations.

There was simply no way to present a fly upstream to this fish (tucked away in a slack behind a bush), so it had to be downstream (into the wind) and pray for enough drag free drift…

Prayers answered and the fly was swallowed on the first cast. That’s a good thing as you only ever get one cast on this river! A jingler variant did the business. We don’t currently stock this fly on the website, but custom orders can be taken and JT will tie them for you.
